Should I Not Love the City?

June 16, 2019 Speaker: Jay Pound Series: Neighboring 12:31

Scripture: Jonah 1:1– 4:34

The Main Question: Who is Jonah’s God, and how does he respond to the world he has made? (4.10-11)

Act I: God Calls; Jonah Flees

Act II: God Rescues Jonah, Jonah Gives Thanks to God

Act III: Jonah Preaches; Nineveh Repents; God Relents

Act IV: Jonah Objects; God Responds

Lesson #1: God’s compassion is great, and never entirely deserved (2.1; 4.2)

  • If God’s compassion extends even to Nineveh, then no one is beyond it

Lesson #2: God responds graciously, even to small steps in the right direction (1.17; 3.10)

Application:

  • If God loves and has compassion for our city, then we should too
  • God will respond graciously, to us and our city
