Commendation: A growing church (v. 19).


Condemnation: (v. 20)

• Jezebel “type” influence.

• Tolerating sin.

Consequences: Intense suffering (vv. 21-23).

Cautions (for us):

Sexual immorality




Challenge: Hold on (vv. 25-28).

What type of tone does this description carry?

What are the commendations Jesus gives to this church?

What is the condemnation Jesus gives to this church?

What does the symbolic name “Jezebel” indicate about the woman in this church? What do you know about “Jezebel” from the Old Testament? What does that tell you about what was going on in this church?

What is the key word that Jesus uses against this church (v. 20)? When is “toleration” a virtue and when does it become a vice?

Compare the two churches, Pergamum and Thyatira. How is the nature and source of their temptation alike and unlike each other?

What do you think Jesus’ promise in vv. 26-28 means?
