Priorities: What’s at the Center

April 21, 2024 Speaker: Jay Pound Series: Releasing Our Grip on What Grips Us

Scripture: Luke 12:13–21

Jesus warns repeatedly against the dangers of greed, and is seldom taken seriously (15)

The Parable of the Rich Fool (Lk. 12.16-21)

What makes the man in the parable a fool

  • He overestimates his control over his own life (16, 18-19)
  • He has centered his life on the wrong thing (21)

Why is wealth a danger to us?

  • It undermines our trust in God (12.19)
  • It steals our heart (12.34)
  • It distracts us from the real purpose of life (12.21)

Take Home Idea: Centering our lives on anything but Jesus and his kingdom is foolish; true fulfillment and security are found only through trust in God and partnership with him.
