Living Generously
Speaker: Jay Pound Series: What If Jesus Was Serious? Scripture: Matthew 6:19–34
Our society’s relationship to wealth and money is characterized by brokenness:
- We stress and worry that there will not be enough.
- We become enslaved by the desire to accumulate wealth and possessions.
- We become selfish with what we have, and envious of those with more.
- Our unprecedented level of prosperity has done very little to solve any of this (6.19).
Jesus’ life-giving alternative: a radical trust in God that produces generosity in us (6.28-34).
- Generosity points to God’s goodness and provision as the only cure for worry (6.19-21, 25-34).
- Generosity frees us from slavery to wealth and possessions (6.31-33).
Application: In a world consumed by worry and envy, living generously puts the goodness of God on display.
