What does it look like to keep faith with God in marriage?
- Being equal partners in God’s purposes (Gn. 1.26-28).
- The man (2.5 -> 2.7, 15)
- The woman (2.18 -> 2.23-24).
- Before Eve, no suitable partner is found (2.20)
- Ezer knegdo: ally, teammate, partner; corresponding to, matching, standing face-to-face (2.18, 20).
- Radical Oneness (2.24).
- Each is the first priority of the other (2.24).
- The covenant of marriage creates a new reality (2.23).
- Note: Blood/Genes vs. Covenants
- To be characterized by faithfulness, exclusivity and permanence
- Humility (Phil. 2.1-11)
- Non-negotiable in any relationship centered on Jesus (Phil. 2.1-5).
When we keep faith with God in our marriages, we reveal the character of our covenant making God and find joy & significance by sharing in his work.
