The post-Enlightenment world began dividing life into separate compartments.
The story of scripture moves toward the reintegration of all things under the Lordship of Jesus (Rv. 5.13)
- God calls his people to reorient all of our lives - worship, work and play - around allegiance to him (Mt. 22.36-40).
- If Jesus is at the center of all life, then all of life has meaning & significance (1 Thes. 4.10b-12).
Examples
- Ruth & Boaz: keeping faith with God means keeping faith with others (Ruth 1.16-18; Ruth 2.10-12).
- Philmeon & Onesimus: keeping faith with Jesus means extending forgiveness and welcoming each other as brothers (Philemon 1.8, 15-16).
When we put Jesus at the center of our entire life, every moment is holy and full of purpose.
Discussion Questions
- What is the problem with compartmentalizing our relationship with God, both biblically and practically?
- What is one area of your life where you would like to do better at keeping faith with Jesus?
