Misconceptions of what “God” means
- God is not a super-being in an arena of other beings.
- God is not the supernatural “watchmaker” of the universe.
What should we mean?
- God is more than the answer to “how?” God is the answer to “why?”
- God is the ground of all existence and being, sustaining this very moment.
What does this mean for you?
- There is no “secular” ground.
- Sin is the misuse of God’s good and loving gift.
- If the ultimate “WHY” looks like Christ, then shouldn’t yours?
Discussion Questions
- How did common, modern conceptions of “God” become so different from what our pre-modern Christian ancestors believed?
- If someone’s ultimate “WHY” answer is their “God”, what are some of the false “gods” that are common wrong answers in our day to that ultimate question of “WHY”?
