Hope in the Chaos
Speaker: Jay Pound Series: When Heaven Comes Down Scripture: Isaiah 2:1–5
Hope is nice, but in the end what really matters is the object of our hope.
- Judah is in the midst of chaos and suffering, but it will not go on forever! (2.2; cf. 1.7-8).
- God will lift up his house so that the nations will come flowing in (2.2-3).
- God’s teaching will go out from Jerusalem bringing justice and peace (2.3-4).
In Jesus, this hope of a world put right has been fulfilled and is still being fulfilled (Mt. 2.2, 28.18-20).
In a world still beset by suffering and chaos, real hope is still found only in Jesus.
Discussion Questions:
- Where do you still see a need for the hope of Is. 2.1-5 today? Where do you see examples of the hope being fulfilled through Jesus?
- (Extra Credit) Explain in your own words how Jesus both fulfills and transforms the expectations of this passage.
