Practices: Solitude
Speaker: Jay Pound Series: Practices Scripture: Mark 1:35–39, Luke 5:12–16
No single regular practice of Jesus’ spiritual life gets less attention than solitude
- “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (Mark 1.35, NIV).
- “But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer” (Lk. 5.16, NLT).
What can we learn from Jesus’ practice of solitude?
- Solitude is more than the absence of people or activity, it is the deliberate withdrawal from the demands of life to prioritize time with God.
- There is no path to intimacy with God that does not include significant time with God.
