Practices: Meditation
Speaker: Jay Pound Series: Practices Topic: Meditation Scripture: Psalm 1:1–6, Deuteronomy 6:1–9
What do we mean by mediation?
- The purpose of meditation as a Christian practice is not to empty your mind, but to fill it God’s word
- Hagah (Hebrew): mutter or murmur, ponder repeatedly, imagine
- Def: continuous engagement and deep contemplation that leads to internalization (Ps. 1.3, Dt. 6.6-9)
Why should followers of Jesus meditate on God’s word?
- Because God designed his word (& us!) for meditation (Ps. 1.3)
- Because meditation is a tool that allows God’s word to shape and transform us (Dt. 6, Rm. 1)
Example: What happens when you meditate on the story of Joseph in Egypt?
