Victorious & Vindicated
Speaker: Jay Pound Series: How God Became King Topic: The resurrection Scripture: Matthew 28:1–15
Why don’t Jesus’ disciples see his crucifixion as the humiliating defeat that it crucifixion always was?
- Because Jesus is raised from the dead, the crucifixion was Jesus' victory over the power of sin and death. (Colossians 2:13–15)
- Because Jesus is raised from the dead, the life, teaching and ministry of Jesus has been vindicated (Matthew 28:18-20; Philippians 2:5-11).
The resurrection reveals the obvious defeat of crucifixion to be the surprising victory of Jesus.
Discussion Questions:
- Can you remember a time in a book or movie when what happened at the end transformed the way you understood events or characters at the beginning?
- What is the difference between seeing the cross as a defeat reversed by the resurrection and seeing the cross as a victory revealed by resurrection?
- Why is it important to see the resurrection as a vindication of Jesus’ life and teaching? Why does that have implications for us today?
