Transformed by Union with Christ

Paul lived and wrote in a proudly hierarchical world where patriarchy and slavery were taken for granted. 

What happens when the new reality of union with Christ (& therefore one another) comes into contact with this social reality in Ephesus? 

Because we are all now united with Christ:

• No one (not wives, children or slaves) can be viewed as an inferior (5.21; 6.9)
• All of our relationships are necessarily reciprocal (5.22 & 25; 6.1 & 4; 6.7-9)
• Our conduct toward each other should follow his example & bring him glory (5.21; 6.1,4,5,9)

Where does the radical message of our union with Christ challenge us in our lives and relationships today?
