Setbacks, Sin, and Surrender

Joshua 7-8

Thrill of victory followed by the agony of defeat.

Problem of sin.  7:1

• Sin’s pattern: I saw. I coveted.  I took.  (vv.20-21)

• Sin’s consequences: 

• Defeat.  7:2-5

• Destruction.  7:13-25

Yet sin does not have the final word.

• Ai is defeated.  Joshua 8

• Valley of Achor is turned into a door of hope.  Hosea 2:14-15

• Another Joshua, Jesus, is God’s final solution.  Ephesians 2:3-4
