Faithfulness

Galatians 5:22-23

 

Faithfulness of God: 

- The Eternal I AM. (Exodus 3:13-14)
- Faithful even when we can’t see it. (Psalm 89)
- He keeps his word.  (Heb. 11:11)

 

Faithfulness:  keep your word,  no matter what.

 

The church of Galatia: faithful or not?  (Gal. 4:17-20)

 

Faithfulness at First Free.

 

Take Home Idea:  God calls us to be faithful people; people who keep our word, no matter what.

Opening:

Have you ever been forced to break an important promise?  How was it taken by the “promisee”?  
Review Pastor Joel's sermon and Take Home Idea.  What struck you about the sermon?  What do you have questions about?


Dig:

Read Exodus 3:13-14
How does the fact that God lives in the eternal now affect his faithfulness?
Skim Psalm 89.  (note vv. 1-2; 49)
What is the connection between God’s love and His faithfulness?
How is the Psalmist feeling about God’s faithfulness as he is writing this?  Why? (vv. 38-45)
Looking at God’s promise to David from our 21st century perspective, how has God kept his word?Define faithfulness.
Read Galatians 5:22-23, then Galatians 4:17-20.
Do you think the church of Galatia was struggling with “faithfulness”?
How does keeping our word to each other, no matter what affect the relationship we have in the church?  How does it affect our mission?

Reflect:

Have you ever felt like God was not listening?  That God was not faithful?  What do you know about God that should convince you otherwise.
Read Hebrews 2:17–18 and 1 Corinthians 10:13. What kinds of things are you usually tempted by?  Think of a situation in which you were tempted recently. What was the way of escape that God offered to you from the temptation?
How can you live by the Spirit and grow in this virtue of faithfulness this week?
