Biography/Description of Ministry
Rocky and Rachel have served with ReachGlobal, the EFCA mission, since 2002. From 2004 until 2009 they served in the holistic ministry division of the mission, Touch Global. Today Rocky serves in the training division of the mission-EQUIP-as the "Information Technology Specialist. Rachel is the "Southeast Asia Advocate" serving in CONNECT. These positions serve both the local church here in the U.S. and missionaries and indigenous partners globally.
They count it a privilege to serve in positions that allow them to witness what God is doing around the world. It is their desire to help make the Church stronger and more effective in reaching the Lost-on both sides of the ocean!
About EFCA EQUIP
The EFCA EQUIP division provides ongoing training and education for EFCA missionaries. It also provides these services to church leaders and ministry partners. This results in the church growing stronger and more effective in reaching people who have never heard of Jesus. Much of the training and education for missionaries is done on-line. As EQUIP's "Information Technology Specialist" Rocky oversees IT needs and development, and serves as an instructional designer.
It is exciting to see how The Lord is using Rocky's 25 years of experience in the computer industry to help equip colleagues and ministry partners around the world to reach people for Jesus.
About EFCA CONNECT
EFCA CONNECT provides resources and assistance in developing healthy missions partnerships between the local church and missionaries or national partners. As the Southeast Asia Advocate, Rachel mobilizes churches, individuals, and resources to join with an indigenous church planting ministry that reaches unreached people in that region. An unprecedented movement of the Holy Spirit is being witnessed today.
Testimonies & Call to Missions
Rocky came to know the Lord at the age of nine, when his grandmother told him about God's love and how Jesus could become his Savior. He was deeply impressed by God's great love for him. It is his response to that love that has nurtured his faith. God developed in Rocky a deep desire to use the rest of his life in service to God, and to share His wonderful love with others.
Rachel came to know the Lord at the age of six when she was confronted by a lie and realized that she was a sinner in need of God's forgiveness. Rachel was raised in Congo as a missionary kid (daughter of Nils & Laura Oldberg). That rich missionary environment, and her schooling at the Ubangi Academy, helped strengthen the foundation of her faith. Her desire to serve the Lord through missions has always been there, but after returning to Congo (then Zaire) for a visit, her passion was reawakened and more clearly defined.
Backgrounds & Experience
Rocky's career for many years has been in the area of computers. His 22 years at Unisys developed in him skills in customer service, systems analysis and programming. His 10 years of service on the Bayport City Council, first as a council member and then as the mayor, gave him additional administrative skills.
Rachel's background has been in art and teaching. Running her own art studio, being the yearbook advisor at her school, and teaching people ages 3 to 100 has given her many communication skills including visual art, advertising, writing, desktop publishing, & instruction.
