First Free Family,

Last Sunday was fun! For our Welcome Home Sunday In-Person worship we had 124 people in attendance between the two services. It was great to see those who were able to come.

We also love those who are participating with our On-Line worship.  Recently, I have heard from one of church members who works in a retirement community in Medina. She informed me that their residents are enjoying watching our worship services On-Line each Sunday morning. What a surprise blessing! We now have a congregation in the western suburbs!

On Sunday morning this year, we will be reading, studying, and preaching through the Gospel of Luke. Luke is the longest of the 4 gospel accounts of Jesus’ life.  Being the only non-Jewish writer of the entire New Testament, Luke labored to show that Jesus is for everyone! He sought out the religious and irreligious, the morally astute and astray, the rich and poor, the popular and marginalized. If you think that you aren’t good enough for God or aren’t sure that you are the kind of person God is interested in, Luke reminds us that Jesus is the Savior of all. He didn’t come for “someone else” but for people like you and me. So I want to invite you to join us—either In-Person or On-Line as we immerse ourselves in the life of Jesus!

This past Wednesday night Velocity Student ministry kicked-off with over 60 middle and high school students, spread throughout the building, socially distanced, masked and meeting in their small groups. It was an exciting night.

This next Sunday, September 20th, both Creekside Kids & Velocity will be meeting during the first service.  Children and students can participate AT CHURCH at 9:00 a.m. on Sundays with a teacher and classmates. Or participate AT HOME whenever it is convenient for your family. Links to a video including a Bible story and family discussion questions will be emailed weekly. This year we’ll be focusing on Jesus the Messiah and using The Gospel Project curriculum. Join in as we learn about the life of Jesus and how we can be more like Him. (If you have not received this email for this week, please contact the church office.)

If you child has not yet registered for Creekside Kids/Clubs, please do so at  firstfreechurch.org/children. (For more information about our Creekside Children’s ministry ReOpening Plan, please check out the Creekside page on our church’s website.)

We hope to resume Adult Community Groups later this Fall.

Here are some other announcements we think you might want to know:

  • Creekside Clubs (1st- 5th grades, Wednesday night program) will be doing a limited addition this fall, starting Oct. 7th.  Clubs will be meeting every other week in-person from 6:30 p.m.–8 p.m. at the church.  For a more complete explanation go to firstfreechurch.org/children to watch a brief video of Carrie telling you what Creekside Clubs will look like this fall.
  • Velocity Student Ministries will be online at 7:00 p.m. this next Wednesday using YouTube and then switching to zoom as our online platforms. Parents and Students, be on the lookout for an email next Monday with the details.
  • We are pleased to welcome JoAnn Burns to our office team. JoAnn will step in as our Office Administrator, starting next week.
  • Starting this Wednesday night, Sept. 23rd, we will be having a weekly Zoom prayer meeting on Wednesday nights from 7 p.m.–8 p.m.  Also, if you do not receive by email our Weekly Prayer Guide, please let us know and we will send it out to you each Wednesday afternoon.

I am looking forward to what God is going to teach us this next year about “Jesus and His plan for our Broken World”, through the Gospel of Luke.  Join me in praying for God’s work to be done in each of our lives.

In Christ,
Pastor Joel
