Changing My Thinking

I remember years ago when I was a young teen I wanted to be liked. I wanted to fit in. I wanted people to like me. If you’re anything like me, you probably had peers you desperately wanted to fit in with as well. Even though you might be grown now, there are still ways we seek to fit in even if they’re more sophisticated.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
(Romans 12:2)

It can be so easy to follow and copy the customs and ways of this world. Even as Christians we might want to fit in, be liked and even not stand out. We might want to go with the flow or be thought of as progressive and modern. We can easily be creatures of conformity.

But notice that I’m supposed to let God transform me into a new person. To let God change the way I think. Because we all know that thoughts become actions and actions become habits and eventually habits becomes character. So God wants to change the way I think. He wants to transform my thinking to match His.

Let that sink in, God wants to change my thinking to match His.

Then notice the promise. When I let God transform the way I think, then I will learn to know God’s will for me. Then I’ll know what is good, pleasing and perfect. Isn’t that what we seek? We want to know God’s will. We want good things. We want to please God. We strive for perfection. I can only achieve that by letting God transform the way I think.

When I think the way God thinks then I’m able to see things the way God does. Then I will have have that peace that passes understanding, I am able to have compassion on people the way that God does and am able to see hope where others only see despair and promise where others only see failure.

How are you letting God change your thinking this week?
