“Thyatira: Lesson in Purity” Small Group Questions

Revelation 2:18-29

Opening:

As a teenager, what person or group influenced you most? How?

Review Pastor Joel's sermon and Take Home Idea. What struck you about the sermon?

What do you have questions about?

Dig:

How does Jesus describe himself? Compare this description with the previous three?

What type of tone does this description carry?

What are the commendations Jesus gives to this church?

What is the condemnation Jesus gives to this church?

What does the symbolic name “Jezebel” indicate about the woman in this church? What do you know about “Jezebel” from the Old Testament? What does that tell you about what was going on in this church?

What is the key word that Jesus uses against this church (v. 20)? When is “toleration” a virtue and when does it become a vice?

Compare the two churches, Pergamum and Thyatira. How is the nature and source of their temptation alike and unlike each other?

What do you think Jesus’ promise in vv. 26-28 means?

Reflect:

Which of the qualities in v. 19 apply to you this week? Why?

Who or what has played a role similar to Jezebel in your life (names are not necessary)? How? How did the Lord free you from that influence?

What do you appreciate about the promise to overcomers in this section? Why?

Close this time sharing and praying together as a group.
