*The image of the church as the body of Christ provides us with three insights into who we are:

  • It provides us with insight into whose we are
    • We belong to Christ
    • The Church is redeemed by Christ to do His work
    • If we wish to be fruitful, we must submit to God's direction
  • It provides us with insight into how we are required to behave toward each other
    • Not according to worldly distinctions, but
    • In accordance with the reality of our oneness in Christ
    • Discord in the body is literally self-sabotage
    • If we wish to be fruitful, we must look closely and often at the health of our body
  • It provides us with insight into our calling in the world
    • We are the temple of the Holy Spirit
    • We are to be a testimony to the presence of God in the world

If we remember whose we are, if we love and honor one another and reflect the love and compassion of God to the world, then the body of Christ will be a visible testimony to the presence of God in the world.

A Thought From God's Word:
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." [Matthew 28:18-20]
