Why I Give Pastor Joel Sutton Reason #1: I give because it honors God. (Malachi 1:6-14)
Reason #2: I give because it allows God to honor & bless me. (Proverbs 3:9 & 10; Malachi 3:8-12). "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine." (Prov. 3:9 & 10; NIV)
Reason # 3: I give because it insults mammon. (Matthew 6:24; Mark 12:41-44). "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." (Matt. 6:24; NIV)
Reason # 4: I give because it is the heart of worship. (2 Samuel 24:21-24).
Reason # 5: I give because it extends my reach in time
and space. (Matthew 6:19-20) "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal." (Matthew 6: 19-20).
Reason # 6: I give because it eases my anxieties. (Matthew 6:31-34).
