1 Peter 1:1-2

  • Basis of our election: foreknowledge of God the Father.
  • Means of our election: sanctifying work of God the Spirit.
  • Goal of our election: obedience to God the Son.

Our message is a gospel of grace.

Hebrews 9:13-14

  • Blood of Christ
  • Through the Eternal Spirit
  • Offered unblemished to God

Our worship is offered through the sacrifice of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:4-7

  • Different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.
  • Different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
  • Different kinds of working, but the same God.

Diversity within unity is needed in a healthy church.

2 Corinthians 13:14

  • Grace of Christ
  • Love of God
  • Fellowship of the Spirit

We represent our faith in our relationships with each other.

Take Home Idea: We embody our Triune God when our message is grace, our worship is focused on Christ, our ministry is diverse, and our relationships reflect God's image.

Sermon-Based Discussion Questions

Review the sermon notes from this past Sunday.  Did anything stick out to you?

Have you ever thought that if your church allows new or different kinds of ministries to develop it might hinder the unity of the church?

Or have you thought that encouraging people to use other gifts for ministry than those that have been used in the past might be divisive in the church?  How might the fact of unity and diversity in the Trinity help you to approach those questions?

Do you think God has made us so that we take spontaneous delight in demonstrations of unity in diversity, such as a musical composition that manifests great unity and yet great diversity of various parts at the same time, or in the skillful execution of some planned strategy by members of an athletic team working together?

Do you think that the trinitarian nature of God is more fully reflected in a church in which all the members have the same racial background, or one in which the members come from many different races (see. Eph. 3:1-10)?

Take some time in your groups to pray for the diversity of ministry represented in your small group/ABF.

A Thought From God's Word:
Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. [Psalm 96:1-4]
