Superficial = SKIN-DEEP and SHORT-LIVED

"Judah did not return to me with all her heart, but only in pretense, declares the Lord." (Jeremiah 3:10, NIV)

What is it that will bring real, deep life change?

  • FEAR?
  • PROSPERITY?
  • RELIGION?

The Real Issue: A HEART PROBLEM

"Judah's sin is engraved with an iron tool, inscribed with a flint point, on the tablets of their hearts and on the horns of their altars." (Jeremiah 17:1 NIV)

"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" (Jeremiah 17:9 NIV)

The Secret: GOD wants toCHANGE OUR HEARTS.

"I will put my law . . . on their hearts." (Jeremiah 31:33 NIV)

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you." (Ezekiel 36:26 NIV)

Take Home Idea: LASTING change is something that GOD DOES.

A Thought From God's Word:
I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. [Philippians 3:10-14]
