Suggestions for Sunday Topics
Lord willing, Professor Easterwood will finish our study of the book of Romans some time in this epoch (or is it "dispensation?")
What do we want to do after that? Please put on your thinking caps, or loosen your neckties, and consider which frontiers of ignorance and apathy need to be pushed back. (If you don't know and don't care, then I guess you don't need to bother.)

Class Structure and Future
Stretching back to the ancient times when Agape was the nameless class that had fallen into the generation gap, a pattern emerged from our chaos . Class officers have been elected periodically, usually serving until they die (emotionally) in office, after which they are generally replaced by fresh bodies and recycled. Officers have included chair or co-chair (sometimes a couple and occasionally a dynamic duo such as Mary Anderson and Joy Fleming.) There has also been a treasurer (or co-treasurers) and social chair or co-chairs.
Currently, Ross and Karin Olson have been co-chairs for longer than they can remember (5 and 1/2 years according to the records). Paulette Goodman - with moral support from Bob - has been Treasurer. When Jon and Mary Londborg could no longer fill the role of Social Chairs, and they must have been irreplaceable, because no replacements were found.
Unlike the political world of recent memory, where it seems like everybody wants to be in charge, running in Agape is mostly FROM not FOR office. Feelers and other various probes have come back empty. Perhaps it is time to return to those days when it was a badge of honor to not be part of any "organized group."
Perhaps the best we will be able to do is come up with the person who hates the job the least, like the fellow who said, "If drafted I will not run, if elected I will not serve, and if I serve, I promise to not enjoy it."
An offering plate is passed every Sunday, but perhaps most do not know why. We have had a tradition of giving gifts to missionaries who have come out of our class. We have also helped subsidize Banquet tickets for those who might find it difficult to pay. But the fund has been dwindling and may not be able to cover the expenses. The question arises, is it time for a change, perhaps eliminating the gifts. The Outreach Commission does give Christmas gifts to all missionaries supported by the church. Perhaps this is enough.
But Agape needs to define itself and discuss its future. Stay tuned!
Ross and Karin are retiring from their posts on December 31, 2002 and hope that by that time, either leadership emerges, or the roles will be found to have been superfluous.
