July 28, 2002

We need help setting up for VBS TODAY. Please plan to stay if you can. We'll serve lunch to those who do!

Due to our Worship/ Youth Candidate coming on August 4, Communion will be served on August 11th. If you haven't received a letter with background information on the candidate, copies are available for you to pick up at the Information Booth.

A Special Congregational Meeting will be held on August 11 following the Sunday morning worship service. We will be voting on the Worship/ Youth Pastor candidate at that time. Following this, we will go directly to Lake Nokomis for baptisms and the church picnic.

Sunday, August 11 - Lake Nokomis Baptisms and an All-Church Picnic is planned after the morning worship and special business meeting. We will meet at Nokomis Beach for the baptisms followed by a picnic at Nokomis Park. If you have an interest in being baptized, please call the church office by Friday, August 2nd.

The next Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 12, 7:00 PM, at Don Brueske's home. The Council meeting will begin with a potluck meal - call Don at (952) 469-3619 for details.

Mark your calendars for the Quarterly Business Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 13, 7:00 PM, at church.

A Day at Gooseberry Falls on the North Shore of Lake Superior is scheduled for the Jr. & Sr. Youth Group, Saturday, August 17. Leave from church at 8:00 AM and return around 9:00 PM. Bring money for snacks and supper on the way back (about $10-15). Lunch will be provided at the falls. If you have questions, contact Jon or Carrie Boyum at (612) 721-7314.

Dinner & a Movie is an Outreach opportunity for our church, so please invite friends and neighbors! Enjoy FREE home-style cooking for the evening meal along with a movie for all ages on August 19th and September 16th at 5:45 PM. RSVP's are helpful, but not necessary. Call (612) 827-4705 and leave a message at the church.


July 21, 2002

Pastor Joel & Becky will be on vacation until July 27th. We extend a warm welcome to Pastor Bill Anderson who will be preaching this morning on Our Identity in Christ.

Congratulations to Lester & Theone Westlund who will be celebrating their wedding anniversary on July 25th. They have provided the donuts for our Fellowship Time this morning.

The flowers in the sanctuary are in loving memory of Paul Fjellman, who went home to be with the Lord three years ago today. -Vi Fjellman

Proud grandparents, Fred & Jane Strandberg, write, "Thanks to God for the safe arrival of Ryan Strandberg. He was born to Greg & Laurel on July 12. He weighed in at 9 lbs. 8 oz.

Here is an easy and fun way to help get our church ready for Vacation Bible School. Come to church with a pair of scissors on Monday July 22, 7:00-9:00 PM, and help get some craft projects ready (cutting and sorting). Also, we need help in collecting small twigs from your yard to use on picture frames.

On Thursday, July 25th, 5:30-8:30 PM, Picnic in the Park will be in full swing. This picnic is sponsored by HPDL Community and will take place at Pearl Park (note new location). We will have a booth with information on Vacation Bible School, free Jesus Videos and a magic show by Jack Nordin.

Bob & Paulette Goodman would like to announce the engagement of two of their children. Theresa has become engaged to Dan Hebert, and Robert has become engaged to Malika Sadi. Each couple is planning a fall wedding.

Picnic and pig roast at Goodman's home today for Agape Class, Seekers, and all the Conversational English partners. If you can bring a salad or dessert, that is great, but if not, come anyway. The food will be served starting at 1:00 PM. Drinks, plates, and utensils will be provided. If you can bring lawn chairs that would really help. Maps and directions will be available on the back table in the foyer.

The rose in the front of the sanctuary is to congratulate Geoff & Mary Beth Wehrman! On June 28th their fourth son, Preston Raymond, was born at 5:12 PM. He weighed in at 8 pounds even and was 21 inches long.

We warmly welcome our new church members: Tom & Lucille Bornholdt, Mildred Hines, Janice Nielsen, and David Huanca. You will have a chance to greet them during our fellowship time following the service this morning. (Please uphold Lucille in your prayers. She has been in the hospital recently, and Tom will be representing them both this morning.)

We will have special prayer this morning for our youth who are involved in the Day Camp program at Ridgewood Church. They will begin their second week of camp, July 8-12th. The day camp counselors are Carl and Daniel Amstutz, Mark Fleming, Brett Friesen, Jennifer and Emily Hibst, Becky Juarez, Emily Sawyer, and Krista Symington. We are proud of your involvement!

Pastor Joel and his family thank you for sending them to the EFCA National Conference in Des Moines, Iowa. It was a wonderful time of renewal.
