June 30, 2002

We warmly welcome Ken & Judy Landrud with EFCM serving the Central African Republic. Ken & Judy will be speaking to the combined adult Sunday school classes this morning.

Pastor Joel and his family have been attending the EFCA National Conference in Des Moines, Iowa. Pastor will be back in the office on Wednesday, July 3rd.

Do you find yourself needing resources for Bible studies and other Christian activities? Visit our Church Library. We have books, sermon tapes, study guides, and videos for all ages.

Are you interested in a small group during the summer? A new small group Bible study has begun. We will be meeting on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM in the Old Fireside room at the church through the summer. Our study topic will be "Coping with Stress - Insights from Eight Bible Leaders" by Marilyn Kunz and Catherine Schell. Stop by and check it out!

Come and support our church in prayer on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:15 PM. Pastor Joel is leading us in a study of the Psalms. You can make an important difference in our church as you unite with other believers before God's throne of grace.

On Thursday, July 25th, 5:30-8:30 PM, Picnic in the Park will be in full swing. This picnic is sponsored by Hale, Page, Diamond Lake Community and will take place at Pearl Park (note new location). Plan to come, see the booths of many organizations, and mingle with neighbors of the church. We will have a booth with information on Vacation Bible School, free Jesus Videos and a magic show by Jack Nordin.

Youth and parents mark your calendars for July 25-28. The Jr. & Sr. High youth will be at Camp of the Master on those days. The cost is $60. Make checks payable to First Free Church and give to Jon or Carrie Boyum by Sunday, July 7th.

Coming Soon - Lake Nokomis Baptisms and All-Church Picnic on Sunday, August 11 after morning worship at 11:00 AM. We will meet at Nokomis Beach for the baptisms followed by a picnic at Nokomis Park. If you have an interest in being baptized, please call the church office by Friday, August 2nd.

School Supply Collection for St. Joseph's Home

As we did last year, we have decided to collect school supplies for the children at St. Joseph's Home for Children, which is a children's shelter just blocks from our church.

Children should bring donations during the week of Vacation Bible School.

Some members of our congregation may also want to participate, so starting Sunday, July 7th, we will have a rubber raft set up by the VBS registration table in the foyer to hold donated school supplies.

Here are suggested items:

  • Pencils, Crayons, Markers
  • Colored Pencils, Erasers, Glue
  • Notebooks, Children's Scissors
  • Small Calculators, School Boxes
  • Small Toys (Lego's, Cards Games, or Matchbox Cars)

We warmly welcome Dave & Jan Harthan from Wycliff Bible Translators in Mozambique. They will speak to the Agape, Fidelis, and Maranatha classes during the Sunday School hour.

We also welcome Jim & Gina Grosz from Youth for Christ in Palm Beach Florida. who will be speaking during the Sunday School hour in Sojourners/Chaim/Post High School Class

  • Please pray that Lareau & Evelyn will have wisdom and direction for their work. Pray for unity and love among those they work with and a servant's spirit in all that they do.
  • Please pray for Lareau & Evelyn that God will prepare the hearts of the people to hear His word and that the doors will be opened to share the good news.

June 16, 2002

We warmly welcome Jon Prins and his guests from Japan. Jon and some of his guests will be speaking during the Sunday school time in Agape Class this morning.

There will be a brief meeting right after the worship service this morning in the Agape Room for those from the Council and Finance & Property Board that would like further information regarding the Wednesday evening meal proposal.

The Church Council has called a Special Business Meeting for the purpose of formalizing an official Call Committee of six people plus the Senior Pastor, with three people elected by the congregation and three Council members appointed from the Church Council. The Nominations Committee will be presenting three nominees who are willing to run, plus any persons nominated from the floor. We will vote for only three. -Don Brueske

  • Operation Sunrise Africa is a strategy to share Christ with 50 million people in 50 cities in 50 days in Southern & Eastern Africa. Hundreds of Campus Crusade for Christ staff & students are mobilizing to see this vision fulfilled.
  • Pray regularly for us and our mission project teams this summer. We need mental, physical and spiritual protection and strength for this "front line" ministry.

We are starting two new areas of prayer support for our Church's 9:30 AM Worship Service.

  1. Each Sunday during the Worship Service we want to have one or more people praying during the service.
  2. Each Sunday after the Worship Service we want to have two people available to pray for those in need.

If you have an interest in signing up for a Sunday, write I can pray on your Welcome Card today or email Mark Mellema at mmellema {at} blackhole.com.

Beginning this Sunday there will be NO Children's Worship for K-6th grades for the summer.

  • Sunday school will continue throughout the summer beginning at 11:00 AM.
  • There is no adult supervision in the primary room during the Fellowship Time. Please keep your children out of the classroom until Sunday school at 11:00 AM. Thanks for your help.

We are honoring our high school graduates (Katie Hucek, Heidi Hultstrand, Molly Miller, Steve Sawyer, and Deanna Symington) during the worship service this morning. Congratulations!

You can sign up to pray for our missionaries this morning during the Fellowship Time today and on June 9th.

Andy & Lorna Gilbert write, "Thank you so much for your prayers and encouragement by commissioning us for service in Japan. We have appreciated your care for us during the three years we have attended First Free. We are so grateful to have a praying congregation behind us as we return to Japan."

All women are welcome to the Women's Guild Picnic, June 4th, at 12:00 Noon. The picnic will be held at Gen Anderson's building, 8641 Wentworth Ave. So. Becky Sutton will be our guest and will give a short meditation. Please bring a salad to share.

Missionary Prayer Focus

David & Karin Oldberg - Yaounde, Cameroon

  • Praise God that He has raised up people to support them by praying and contributing financially to their ministry as hostel parents for missionary kids in Yaounde, Cameroon.
  • They will be caring for up to 12 teenage missionary kids (MKs) whose parents work in the outlying areas and surrounding countries of Central Africa.
  • Pray for the Oldbergs as they now prepare to leave. They will be packing down their house and preparing for a three year absence. Pray for good health through this process.
