Learning Through Hard Times
This last month has been a really hard time for our family. My mother
began getting so weak, but the doctor could find no real problems. She
was so weak, however, we took her to our home. After one week with us,
we could no longer care for her, and she insisted on going to the
hospital. During that week they found she had non-Hodgkin's
lymphoma. She was told of her condition, and with a very clear mind
she asked for no treatment but just to keep her comfortable. We
followed her desires.
Her final week was spent at the Nile Health Center, just two blocks
from her home. The Sunday night before her passing I stayed with her
all night. Her breathing took great effort until 2:00 AM when her
breaths became very short, and then finally, at 2:50 AM she took one
long breath and went to be with her Lord.
Her funeral service was held on Friday, August 17, at Word of Grace
Baptist Church where she attended the last six years. If a service
like that can be beautiful, it was!
Like many of you, I, too, have lost a mother but heaven has gained
her. Memories will last, and lessons will continue to be learned. How
wonderful to have loved ones, and the family of God to stand with us!

Living Waters Festival
The 4th annual Living Waters Music Festival was held and
planned by Fortress of Hope Church in Fort Hope, Ontario, which
is an Ojibwe Indian Reservation.
Our team of eight, led by Dave Boeltl, left Wednesday, August 1, and
returned on Monday, August 6. This was the third trip for me, and it
was extremely rewarding as Kingdom work is. Over 50 people came to
know Jesus - Hallelujah!
The festival was broadcast to 42 other native communities across
northwestern Ontario, so only the Lord knows how many others were
reached with the Gospel.
I gave my testimony one night, and another night God used me to give
some encouraging words. I had times of personal prayer and ministry
with a number of people. Relationships were strengthened and new
friendships were made. God is good.
Thank you so much for praying. The prayers of righteous people avail
much. Our team would not have experienced what we did if it weren't
for the prayers of faithful people.
Blessings - Barb Hugo
Looking to Fall
As we enter the fall season, it is quite
apparent that a full-time pastor will not be on the scene. I have
agreed to continue on as interim pastor at least for some time. The
fall presents some very special opportunities for First Free. We will
continue to do what must be done and as the Lord leads.
Continue to pray for the Call Committee for
wisdom and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Be patient. . . God has
"His servant" in mind.
I will continue the series of messages on the "Parables and
Letters to the Churches" on the Sundays that I am here. There
will be a couple guest speakers when I travel with my Quartet.

The 50th - The Greatest
If you happened to be one of those who couldn't be at the 50th
Anniversary Celebration in mid-July, you really missed something!
From the great attendance - well over 300 people, to the splendid
dinner in the gym - approaching 300 there, to the overflowing choir
loft, to the wonderful time of honoring and hearing from Dr. Arnold T.
Olson, the pastor at First Free fifty years ago, to the sermon on
Jubilee by Pastor Fallt. . . it was all just great!
There were so many former members who returned for the celebration
that the auditorium, the halls, and the gym were just a-buzz with
excited conversations as old friends connected again. It was a reunion
and celebration all put together.
For many it was time to think again of all the united work that has
gone into making First Free what it has been down through these fifty
years at this location. It was truly a time to rejoice and celebrate
what God has done through His people in this place. It was pretty
awesome!
Thanks so much to the committee, to Don Brueske, its Chairman, to
Betty Carlson and Apryl Hultstrand, Co-Chairs of the Serving
Committee, to Cindy Sawyer for her artistic touch, to Pastor Fallt and
Roger Olson, and all those who participated to make this such a
significant milestone in our church's history. Well done!
Join Us for Choir!
Summer is nearly past, and it's time to start thinking about joining
us for Choir.
Remember the 50th Anniversary Celebration? The loft was
packed. . .
and I'd like to do it again!
Join us for the first rehearsal on Wednesday, September 5, at
7:00 PM. We'll have fun. . . we'll learn a lot. . . and best of all,
we'll praise our Lord . . .together. See you then!
