Watching Fireworks

If I tax my memory really strongly, I can remember going down to Powderhorn Park on the 4th of July to watch the fireworks with my parents.

The fireworks were placed on the island, and the people would gather on the hills surrounding the lake. There would be mobs of people all gathered for this special event. Some of the times we would walk over to the Park. It was fun to see the crowds all coming from various directions going to the park.

I didn't know how long the fireworks would last - it seemed so short to me. It may have been an hour, but it seemed short, and then it was all over. Often it's like this with some things we do - the event goes by so fast.

Sunday, July 15th, will be a special time of celebration for First Free Church. We will all celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the completion of the present sanctuary. The original church was sold and the congregation moved out to this location and had their first services in July of 1951.

We'll celebrate that day with a special Worship and Praise Service at 9:30 AM with a dinner served at about 11:30 AM. Invite old "First Free" friends to join us for this time of celebration. Let's make this a wonderful time of reunion!

- My Christian Heritage -

By Margaret Fallt

This is a recipe that I got from my aunt some years ago. As a child I loved to go to her home, and she was known for all the good food she put on her table.

As I look back in time to my childhood, I am reminded to be thankful for the Christian heritage that is mine. I am grateful for the training that I received from my parents as well as my grandparents. It was evident to me that they loved the Lord.

Sometimes we yearn for the carefree days that we enjoyed when we were children. We feel burdened down with the cares of the day, but faith has a way of making the difficult "now" into a golden tomorrow.

Hebrews 11:1 says, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Then we read the names of those who had great faith. Think of the faith of Abraham. He traveled and stayed in a strange land having a positive belief that the promises of God were true.

The exercise of faith makes the muddied path less difficult. The promises of God are sufficient. He is the author and finisher of our faith. By completely trusting in Him, the sun will shine brighter and our service for Him will be more profitable.

"Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" Hebrews 11:6.

I am so thankful for my heritage, for those who loved the Lord and served Him. I am humbled when I think of the generations before me who taught their children the Word of God. God is so good. Let us remember to thank Him. We must teach our children and grandchildren and leave them a legacy like ours.

While faith makes all things possible,

It is love that makes all things easy. - Spirit Lifters

A Thought From God's Word:
For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. [1 Peter 3:18a]
