May Is A Special Month
The flowers appear on the earth;
the time of singing has come. . .
Why is May so special you ask? There are several
reasons. First, the winter is over and spring
should be here. Second, the April rains have
cleaned up the dirt from the winter and the flowers and grass are so
fresh. Third, we plan for special things with family and
friends that could not be done in winter with big coats and overshoes,
etc. You don't have to put on on all those heavy coats until next
November. Fourth, we have already paid our income tax!
They say you spend the first few months working to pay taxes.
Fifth, and most important of all, it's my birthday
month! 74 years ago I made my appearance at 3728-22nd Ave. So. in
Minneapolis, and the world has never been the same! My father passed
away 25 years ago, and mother continues to have quite good health at
99 years. Perhaps I will have those genes? Sixth,
because June follows May, and it's the month that I observe as my
spiritual birthday. I was 12 at the time, and was led to the Lord by
my Sunday school teacher at the close of a Sunday night service.
Now you know why May is the best month of the year!

Church Anniversary
Mark your calendars for July 15, 2001
On April 26, 1951, before construction was even completed, mid-week
services were begun in the foyer of the church on Chicago Avenue. The
text for the first one was Isaiah 56:7. "Even them will I
bring to my holy mountain and make them joyful in my house of prayer;
their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon my
altar, for mine house shall be called a house of prayer."
The week of July 8-15, 1951, was one celebration for the congregation
with A Vision Becomes A Reality as the theme. The first Sunday
services ever held in the new edifice were on June 8, with Dr. Arnold
Olson speaking in the morning service. Dr. Olson was the Pastor at
First Free Church from 1948-1952.
The church was dedicated on Sunday, July 15, at 3:00 PM with Dr.
Halleen giving the address.
