Jesus Helps You Power Up! Vacation Bible School Report 2004
88 children (age 5 through starting the 6th grade)
participated in Vacation Bible School at First Free from July 26th
through July 30th, 2004. The kids learned about Jesus and had a chance to
develop their "spiritual muscles" as they visited places
such as the: Power Source, Munch & Crunch Café, Puppet Place,
High Impact Crafts, and Movers & Shakers Fitness Fun.
At the Power Source, the kids heard the gospel from Bible
characters such as the Woman at the Well, the Good Samaritan, Peter,
Mary the sister of Lazarus, and a servant in the king's court. First
Free is blessed to have talented people who can make the Bible stories
come to life. Thanks to our Bible storytellers: Stacy Olson, Mark
McClun, Wayne Danielson, Beth Brown and Pastor Joel Sutton. Thanks to
Karin Olson for the great costumes.
At Faith Lift Praises the kids sang along to the music of
Pastor Eric and the youth band. They also watched a 5-minute skit each
day about the adventures of Lana and Kyle. The kids also had a chance
to win prizes for memorizing the Bible verse of the day.
The children enjoyed snacks at the Munch & Crunch
Café. The kids loved the "pudding in the well" and
the "servant's hand" which also reinforced the Bible story
of the day. Paulette Goodman and her team made treats that were
creative and tasted great!
At the Puppet Place the kids learned life lessons from the
ANTics of Reuben and Rachel. Thanks to Cheryl Vatsaas and our
puppeteers: Ingrid and Samantha.
The children made name necklaces, water bottle holders, decorated clay
pots, and picture frames at High Impact Crafts. A big
thanks to Marilyn Fisher and her team!
Jerry McDonald and Susan Stabnow made Movers & Shakers Fitness
Fun true to its name. The kids had a chance to run around and be
crazy. The slip-n-slide was a big favorite again this year as was the
"well done" water relay.
Our service project this year was to collect change to help
build a camp for kids in _________. The Power Up! VBS kids collected
$344.00 which will be donated to the camp.
On Tuesday, we had a wonderful magic show by our very own Jack
Nordin. Jack entertained kids (of all ages) with his juggling - you
should see the trick where he has plates spinning on sticks in his
mouth while he juggles!
On Thursday, we had a visit from several members of the Dramatic
Panthers Double Dutch Jump Rope Team. The young athletes told us
about their participation in a regional competition and TV show. They
answered our questions and showed us several Double Dutch jump rope
tricks including the "washing machine" and "the
clock." A few brave Power Up! kids and Pastor Eric gave Double
Dutch jump roping a try.
62 people volunteered their time and talent to make VBS at First Free
possible - THANK YOU!!! To our prayer warriors, your prayers meant
more to us than you will ever know. Thanks to Knox Presbyterian
Church, our partner this again year for scenery and props (which are
now being used by Abundant Life CMA Church.)
Praise God for a wonderful and memorable week at VBS. Please come to
the 9:30 AM worship service on September 12, 2004 to see the VBS
presentation with over 100 pictures taken throughout the week!
