rest

Each and every one of us has a plateful of commitments, burdens, obstacles, and hardships in our lives.

You.  Me.  All of us!

Every weekend, it's easy to walk into the doors of First Free's sanctuary with all of these pieces of life weighing heavy on our shoulders.  Your mind may be spinning.  You might not know how you'll make it through your obstacles.  You might now even know how you’ll make it through the next couple of hours.

What is Jesus’ response to all of these burdens?

He says this in Matthew 11:28-29: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Whoa.  That's no small thing!

Jesus says that we're able to receive rest in every one of our burdens from Him. But, how do we receive that rest?  ...We must come to Him. We must be willing to admit we can't make it through these obstacles on our own strength and resources.  Once we come to that surrender, God's rest flows abundantly.

So as you navigate through another week, take time to quiet your heart before the Lord. Take a moment to decompress, to set it all aside, and to say this to Christ, “Lord, I come to You, seeking rest in You.”  That is a prayer that will not go unanswered.

Let's seek rest in Christ together.
